How Graphic Designers Are Making A Difference

Graphic Designers are working to make America great again. These designers used Donald Trump’s negative campaign and turned it into a positive message.

On March 15th protesters built a “wall” of kindness in front of the entrance to Trump Tower on New York City’s infamous Fifth Avenue. For approximately three hours around 100 volunteers stood out front of the building holding giant poster boards that spelled out “BUILD KINDNESS NOT WALLS,” in bold block letters.

The signs were the work of two quite popular Graphic Designers, Jessica Walsh and Timothy Goodman as a part of their most recent social experiment. The social experiment entitled “12 Acts of Kindness” explores the idea of turning empathy into a design experiment.

This peaceful protest was part of Step 12: Dive Deep, which began when the pair of designers decided to get their Graphic Design students at the School Of the Visual Arts involved. Walsh and Goodman assigned their class to pick a global issue and find unique ways to bring the issue to light using a bigger platform. The idea was inspired by their student Isabelle Griffioen’s original concept.

It is amazing to see that designers can use their work and talent to make their voices heard. When it comes to politics and elections, designers can have a huge impact on campaigns by designing compelling graphics for politicians and their campaigns. This wall of kindness was designed as a response to Trump’s outrageous promise to build a wall along the United States border.

In relation to their kindness project, the pair of designers said simply that Trump has not been kind throughout his campaign. The two wrote on their website, “Kindness is an innate quality that we can all possess as human beings. We need a leader who will be an example of this trait.”

This isn’t the first time these designers have worked together on a project like this. Check out their very popular website 40 Days of Dating, a social experiment the two embarked on leading to a successful book. The book also happens to be beautifully designed of course.

Now you can cast your vote on what you’ll do if Trump wins on a new website designed by Walsh and Goodman, appropriately titled “If Trump Wins.”
